I have an excel workbook with 3 sheets. One of the sheets has a pictur
in it approx 250kb.

At first the file size was around 350kb, but all of a sudden it is no
4.2meg. Does anyone know why this has happened. I need to send thi
sheet through Hotmail, in which it would be too big!

Thank

I'd look to see where each worksheet ended (via ctrl-End).

If that was further down/to the right than you expected, I'd try some of the
techniques at Debra Dalgleish's site:

http://www.contextures.com/xlfaqApp.html#Unused

Then save it.

If that didn't help too much, I'd look to see if the pictures got duplicated
somehow.

You could look for them via:
edit|goto|special|objects

And if they're visible, they'll be selected. And you could tab between each to
find them.

But if they were hidden, you'll need a little program:

This one just displays the count of pictures.

Option Explicit
Sub testme01()

Dim wks As Worksheet
For Each wks In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
With wks
MsgBox .Name & vbLf & .Pictures.Count
End With
Next wks

End Sub

This one unhides them.

Sub testme02()

Dim wks As Worksheet
Dim pict As Picture
For Each wks In ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets
With wks
For Each pict In .Pictures
pict.Visible = False
Next pict
End With
Next wks

End Sub

If you're new to macros, you may want to read David McRitchie's intro at:

Thanks to all that replied but I figured the problem (eventually!!) ou
myself. The data that I was adding in to the excel sheet was in HTM
format which significantly increased the file size of the worksheet
