I have a group of networked XP PRO machines. They are
all configured as one workgroup. Hopwever, in order to
use individual passwords on folder, the machines need to
log on to a domain not as a workgroup. QUestion: CAN i
CHANGE any of the machines to a domain controller for the
workgroup to access the individual passwords?

i) no you cannot change a XP Pro machine to a domain controller. You need to
buy a server level OS such as Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 for that.

ii) you can create usernames and passwords for each and every user on each
and every machine, turn off simple file sharing, and use NTFS and share
permissions to assign rights for each user account on each share. Of course
this is an unmanagable pain in the backside but for the sake of completeness
there it is...
