File sharing password

I have a few questions. Please address both questions.

I am a little confused, and am hoping that someone will help me. I
understand the concept of sharing files on the same pc with other users and
with other pc's. When you SHARE a folder, there are two tabs SHARE and
SECURITY. They work together in a way... I just can't figure out how and
when and why. Is security tab used only for restricting access on the
single computer and have nothing to do with other computers accessing yours?
Please explain what it is to me.

Also, I want to know:

If I restrict users from accessing my folders, then they get a warning
message ACCESS DENIED. But sometimes they get a screen asking them to put
in a user name and password to access. What controls that. It is a mistery
to me. I would prefer a prompt for a password sometimes rather than a
ACCESS DENIED message.

I really appreciate any help here

Thanks

Share permissions are applied upon access over
the network. These state the maximum permissions
allowed to accounts accessing with the network.

NTFS permissions (the security tab) control access
to the objects in the filesystem. NTFS permissions
are always checked, whether the access is local or
over the network.

When access is over the network, and a principal
is granted NTFS permissions greater than the share
level permissions, the principal will only get those
of the NTFS permissions as are allowed by the share
permissions. This is so even though the principal
would have all NTFS granted permissions if the
access was local during a login.

If a connection already exists the session for the access
must use the credentials of the existing connection. If
no connection yet exists, if it is possible that the network
resource is usable then there is a prompt for credentials
in order to find out whether permission is granted. When
credentials already exist (existing connection to the machine)
the check for permission can happen directly.
I really appreciate any help here

Thanks

So, it is clear now ?
