File sharing causes client computer to crash

A

anon

I have a laptop connected to a desktop computer with a
crossover cable (no other network or internet). desktop
computer runs WinXP Pro and laptop Home edition.
I have shared desktops "D"-drive to network.

The problem is that when I try to use this disk from
laptop, the laptop totaly freezes. It takes several
minutes to gain access to this disk. (And during this,
explorer, desktop and start-menu are unavailable)

When I plug the cable in (to the laptop) it takes a minute
until the the server computer appears to the "My Network
Places" but after that minimum 5min (often more) to access
shared drive.

This happens also when I am already "connected" to that
drive. But in the same time, for example, mediaplayer can
play movies and music from this network drive!
