file security

I need to make a file folder that is secure. Whenever I
go to properities and attempt to use the box for security
it is grayed out and will not let me click it. I have
tried several aproaches but none will activate the
security box. Can anyone help?

The answer depends on several factors you haven't mentioned in your
question: What version of Windows do you have; is the disk formatted as
FAT32 or NTFS; and does your user login have administrator-group rights?

In any case, this is a Windows question, not a Word question. Please ask it
in the appropriate Windows newsgroup.
