Excel was working just fine for six months then all of sudden if you open an existing file and try to save it I get a sharing violation. If you do a "save as" and then select options and unclick the read-only option, you can save it. Why is it defaulting to read-only. The user has all file rights in Novell.

Try this:-

"Read-Only" Error Message When You Try to Save an Office 2003 File to a Novell
Netware Network Location

We have had luck with turning off "Burst Mode" and "File caching".
These settings can be found in the Novell client properties under the
advanced tab.
