file permission for non-admin

I need to allow a non-admin account permission to rename the HOST file.
Actually I want a little program called hostoggle to do it. XP denies access
to this file unless I'm logged on with administrator privileges.

I have looked through the faqs but keep coming full circle without an idea
of how to grant individual user permissions. Any help is appreciated.

Greetings:

To enable the Security tab in file properties: In the Control Panel\Folder
Options\view\select Use simple file sharing (last value in the list)... next
Go to the HOST file properties\security tab\add the user account\give full
permissions.

Hope this helps.

I am currently using simple file sharing but the only tab for the HOST file
is 'General'. Do I need to convert to NTFS for these other tabs (security)
to be present?

Thanks

Simple file sharing is already enabled. The only tab under the HOST file's
properties is 'General'. I'm currently using FAT32 on the drive. Do I need
to convert to NTFS for the Security tab to become present?

Thanks

Yes.. convert to NTFS..
One thing I noticed after making the change to NTFS, the Folder Option/View
"Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" must be turned *OFF* (un-checked).
It was enabled by default and I had left it that way because that is how I
understood your instruction. Never the less - I'm glad you mentioned the
setting; Leaving 'simple file sharing' enabled inhibits the security tab.
That you mentioned it at all lead me to the proper place where I had to make
only one alteration.

Thanks very much
