File not found

Hi all,
I have a workbook with some formula references to another workbook. All
works fine except that on opening the first workbook, a "file not found" box
opens trying to find a file that has not been referenced in either workbook.
If I click Cancel, another "File not found" box opens looking for the
"Invoice 1" file. Yet again there is no reference to this in either
workbook.
I have Used the Find function to see if there are any references at all in
all the sheets whether in formula, value or comment and can find none. (I do
not select Match case nor Find entire cells only.)
Has anyone got a suggestion how on opening this file it will stop looking
for these supposed links?

Try going to the Edit menu and selecting Links. Select the workbook in question and Change
Source to point to the book you just opened, i.e. link the workbook to itself.

Hi,

Chances are the link is in a Named cell reference that's referring to
the obsolete file

Go to Insert - Name - Define

and check for any links there,

Hope this helps,

G

Hi Gromit,
Thanks for your reply. I did as you suggested and found quite a few Names
cell references to a file I can't ever remember creating and I sure didn't
create the references as they were all with unusual names which I would
never have chosen. I wonder though, I did once open an imbuilt Invoice
template. Could Microsoft insert these references automatically?
Nevertheless, I never had this problem before until I actually made
references to another workbook myself.
I viewed every reference in both workbooks and deleted all those that were
obsolete or did not have direct reference to the workbooks in question.
Since doing that, the "File not Found" box only opens once instead of twice
and it is still looking for the same file as before.
The strange thing is is that the file it's looking for is "01- 02" without
the .xls extension which means it's not a file at all.????

Hi Myrna,
Good sugeestion except it won't let me "Change source to point to the book
you just opened".....says something like "your formula contains an invalid
reference to a worksheet", etc.
To overcome this I had to open a blank workbook and changed the source to
that.
Is there a way to remove the link altogether, as there is apparently no
working link at all?
Seems to be no way to delete the link via this operation.
