"File not completely loaded" error

Deborah Cohen

I am trying to import a CSV file into Excel 2000. The
file has more than 255 columns, and I am getting the
error message in the subject line above, and the file is
truncated. I know there is a patch available from
Microsoft, but I can't find it in the Knowledge Base.
Any help anyone can give me on this is much appreciated!
Thanks, DC

I doubt there is a patch, there might be an add-in but what you see is
default behavior,
if you rename the file extension to txt instead or use data>import external
data and change file
lookup to all files or *.* you can control it using the text import wizard.
You have to use it twice (or more),
first to import the first 256 columns (excel limitation is 256 columns),
then second time select do not import
the first 256 columns in step 3 and put the rest in another sheet (if more
than 512 columns a third sheet and so on)
