File Folders, rearranging the contents

I am scanning photographs into "My Documents", then dragging the photos to
the appropriate folders which are set up by year. I am able to rearrange the
order of the photos in the destination folder by dragging them, but I am
unable to "save" the order. There is no "save" shown on the file menu. Once
the folder is closed and reopend, the photos revert to their original order.
The "Arrange Icons" drop down really doesn't do what I need. The Help menu
doesn't address this situation. So, does anyone know how to "save" the order
of the photographs in the folder once I have rearranged them?

right click empty space in My Documents and make sure that AutoArrange is
unchecked.

Thank you for your input, unfortunately when "right clicking," all options
including "auto arrange" are unchecked. So I still have the problem. Any
further thoughts?
