File extensions mis-direction?

When I try to open certain files , they try to open with my Quikbooks pro
accounting software. Even though they are correclty assigned for the proper
extensions? The first time I noticed this problem was when I recieved an .xls
download from a reliable source. The files vary in types and have no relative
information pertaining to Quickbooks.
 
Sounds like you've been importing excel spreadsheets into your QuickBooks
application and somewhere along the line QuickBooks has been permanently
associated to open "xls" files (xls is the default extension for excel, not
QuickBooks).
