File Copy Utility?

S

steve

Hi All,

I am looking for a file copy utility to do a mass file copy from one file
server to another (WIndows 2000 servers).

It should keep the Last Accessed Date unchanged on both the origin and the
destination servers and do differential copies (copy only files that have
changed since the last copy).

Is there anything like that, as freeware, if possible?

Thanks!

Outstanding tool and free, too! Latest version is part of the Windows
Server 2003 Resource Kit tools.

See tip 6705 and link in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com to download RoboCopy.

You have a right attitude problem LIPPY

I wrote mine to demonstrate the registry class usage in VB.NET for people to
download, view & to see how to impliment it.

I bet the other one doesn't have the source code available for download,
does it? I bet its a compiled executable file.

Anyway, who need third party software when you're talented enough to write
your own? Can you say the same, LIPPY?

Well it isn't third party utility. It is is a Microsoft Resource Kit utility and is fully
supported by Microsoft. Read the attached MS Word DOC file in the ZIP file and you'll see
Microsoft's copyright statement. Robocopy is autility provided on the Win2K Resource Kit
(also NT4, and 2003 server Resource Kits)
{ Oh that's right your using the MS CDO Web front-end so you can't see my ZIP file
attachment ! }

Based upon the OP's post, Robocopy is the *best* utility. RoboCopy is shory for Robust Copy
and with the right Commnad Line switches, even the NTFS permissions will be copied from
Server A to Server B.

I was wrinting 'copy' and 'move' utilites in "C" and 8086 Assembler "YEARS AGO". Now I
don't program anymore. I just do scripting. Especially with my favourite the Kixtart
interpreter { http://kixtart.org Kixtart is CareWare }. And Kixtart is another utility
provided on the Win2K Resource Kit.

Since you are disrespecting me by calling me "LIPPY"...

Why don't YOU learn how to use a News Client such as; Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger,
Forte Free Agent, Mozilla Thunderbird or other to access News Servers such as
icrosoft's. -- msnews.microsoft.com

The following NNTP Protocol URL will take your default News Client "HERE"

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.win2000.general

The Microsoft CDO web front-end to their News Server sucks and you are missing the wealth of
of the 10's of thousands of public News Groups in UseNet.

But then again, your an AOL user [ AOL IP -- 172.201.128.176 ]
AOL user's don't know how to use the Internet that's why they use AOL crapware as a
front-end to the Internet.

My program is on a Microsoft website too you know

I started programming in 1980 with Z80 assembly. I have also coded for many
years in C, C++, PASCAL, BBC's, Commodore, from VB 3 to VB.NET, some HTML & a
little JAVA/C#. I have my own programming private business & are actually out
of the country (all expenses paid :) ) now working on 2 software projects. I
could go on about my honours degree in programming, my MCP & my MCSE, but I
won't - lol

I will not answer any more replies as its pointless. Just sort your attitude
out
