File comparison facility

I have WinZip and put a file on my PC's web server for my friend to
download. However, he got CRC error during unzipped. I would therefore
like to compare if he got exactly the same file as mine on the server. In
Unix I know of a checksum utility to calculate and display a checksum for a
file but I don't know the equivalent in WinXP. Is there such checksum
utility on WinXP? Otherwise, how could I compare 2 files on 2 different
machines?

Regards.

To my knowledge, there there is command available in standard XP for
this, although checksums (or equivalent) are used in file copying and
other areas. Just not exposed to user, far as I can tell.

Winzip has this sort of technology built in, you can see.

I think the zip file got corrupted on the download via the Internet
(which can happen). I think you can safely assume that if the file
unzips properly, then the files all arrived intact.

I would recommend he simply download a new copy of the file and try again.

I'm assuming the zip file is ok. If your friend continues to have a
probelm, you may wish to unzip it and see if you can get the files ok.
If not, then the zip is flawed and you can replace it.

Don't know if WinZip does this but if you Use WinRAR you can view the CRC of
the zipped files.
