File associations

DOC files are currently set to open with MS Word Viewer 97. When the
accociation is set to open with MS Word 2003, they will still open with MS
Word Viewer 97. Note, the icon reflects the association change until I
attempt to open the file. It then will revert back to MS Word Viewer 97.
Any ideas?

Uninstall WV97.

I uninstalled WV97. Opening the file apparently started a script, or
something, that reinstalled WV97. This is most disturbing.

One of the Word MVPs on the many Word newsgroups may be able to direct you.

Rudd,

Have you tried using the "File Types" tab (in the Folder Options applet) to
change file associations? Select the file type from the list and choose
"Advanced". If the "Advanced" button is missing, then click the "Restore"
button once.

If that does not help, generate a file association report and post here.
