File and Settings Transfer

Hi:
I recently installed a new hard drive in my PC and would
like to transfer the old settings and files from the old
hard drive to the new one. The file and transfer setting
wizard in XP Pro can't find the files; can I manulally
transfer desktop and IE favorites etc without "trashing"
my newly installed hard drive? Where are these files
located (IE favorites, desktop settings)
Thanks

You should have run the FAST wizard on the old system before you
upgraded it. If all you did was slap the new drive in and format it,
then your Windows is still on the old disk. You can use the disk copy
utility that came with your new disk or that you can download from your
disk vendor web site to copy your old disk onto your new disk. Then you
won't have to use the FAST wizard at all.

If you plugged in your new disk and installed a fresh copy of Windows on
it and it is the D: drive, you should have a multi-boot option. Boot to
the old install and run FAST.

If you unplugged the old disk, plugged in the new disk and installed
Windows fresh and if you still have the old disk plugged in, reboot to
the BIOS setup and select your old disk as the boot device. Run the FAST
wizard from the CD and save the file to one of the disks.

Then change the boot device back, run FAST wizard again and point it to
the file you saved.

As you can see, what you need to do depends entirely on how you
installed your new hard disk, which you didn't describe. You want to run
the SP1 version of FAST.
