I recently loaded recovery console into my xp according to directions
online on MS's site and tips kindly given to me here. I noticed some changes
in file hidden and not in my root directory. pagefil.sys has appeared
hiberfil.sys (I always turn hibernation off) bootsect.dos also. What are
these files? Also when recovery console is loaded where is it loaded to?

Try to delete them. If you can, then OS is not using them. If you cant :
Open Command Prompt
Type following lines :

attrib -s -h \pagefile.sys
attrib +s +h \pagefile.sys


Go to Control Panel > Power > Hibernate tab
Uncheck the box "Enable hibernation"
CLick OK
Now , delete the file from C if it still exists.
