Fields in Forms

I am making a form (using text fields, etc.) so people
will have access to just the cells in a table that they
need to fill out. I am doing this in Word 2000. When I
have a field that only should be a date. How can I keep
them from hitting enter after and causing another space
below the date in the cell. Do I do this by restricting
the number of characters that they can enter?
