Hello we've got a doc with the date originally inserted and doc saved in the
past (just date, not createdate field). Even though
Tools|Options|Print|Update Fields is not checked, it updates the field when
we print. Please advise, user indicates it never used to do this and we
can't use createdate for other reasons. Please advise--thanks much in
advance.

As the link Suzanne posted indicates Date fields show the system date of the
computer and are intended to update. Why can you not use a CreateDate field
which always shows the date the document was created? If you are re-using a
document as a 'template' save it as a template and create new documents from
it. Those documents will thus show their creation dates in a Createdate
field.

Although a CreateDate field is certainly the best solution, it's also
possible to lock or unlink a Date field.
