Field names

Can anyone help me. I need to retrieve the actual field
name into a query or somewhere rather than the contents
of the field. this is because i create a cross tab query
which puts the field contents (which i want it to do)
into the field names (column headings) and i then want to
create a report that lists the field's name (1 to however
many fields there are) across a page. and then display
the field content below them as normal. the content (the
name of the field) changes so i cannot just set fixed
headings. I understand that the number of fields vary.
