Hello all,

I support a dentist office and one of their workstations got some pretty
mean spyware and windows had to be repaired. The problm is that the oem
xp pro sticker was so mangled and torn there is no way to get the key.
Is there a way to take the drive out and put it in another system and
read the key from the registry somehow?

Another question is that once a repair gets to the gui and asks for the
key, is there a way to cancel the repair and/or undo the repair. I
think that I can use a backup registry copy to xclean the spyware but
everytime I boot it goes into the repair/setup screen again.

Can I edit/delete a file to make it boot normally into windows? I
viewed the boot.ini and its not in there. I replaced the ntldr file and
it didnt help.

I don't really want to have to buy them another copy of windows b/c of
the sticker being mangled.

If I called microsoft, can I read them some identifying info on the
system such as motherboard serial number, mac address, etc... to enable
them to pull up my key?

All of their software is legit and paid for.

Much thanks in advance for any help.

The system will not boot into windows. I cannot run a windows program
if it will not boot into windows.

The original problem was the system restarting over and over. We ran a
repair to fix it and thats when we had to put in the key and the sticker
was not legible. We have the data intact and have the system at the
point of entering the cd key but as the sticker cannot be read we need t
find a way to get the key from the raw data or from microsoft. See my
original post.

This should work if you can get the installer to recognize the previous
install.
Do A repair reinstall of Windows.
You will be promted for a key but on a repair it is near the end of the
installation. You run an exectuable by pressing shift+f10 from that screen.
It will open a command prompt. From there you can switch the drive to the
floppy by simply typing a:
You will need to put the magicjellybean .exe program on a floppy and put it
in the drive. If you dont have the program - you can find it here
http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml
Note the download is a zip file with the exe inside.
You can execute the program off the floppy and then copy and paste the key
values for each section.
I just did this the other day with the program running off a USB Drive.
