Firstly my desktop background is plain white and I am unable to change it at
all. I have tried all methods that i know of e.g Right mouse-click properties
etc But it is still white.

Secondly which is a bit more important to me, is the windows xp update will
not load how ever hard I try. I have followed all of the manual steps like
deleting internet history but havent had any succsess. I was thinking can i
download it for many PCs and use it but it says that the file is conciderably
larger and I dont know what to do.

Thanks Faith x

First the obvious, having "right clicked" the desktop and selected
the "desktop" tab, and then selected the background required,
you have to click the "Apply" button followed by the "OK" button.

"Windows Update will not load"?
It dosen't "load". Explain exactly what you are doing?
Win Update is a link via the Start menu. Do you mean
this dosen't work/connect? Do you receive an error message?
"Critical Updates" are by default auto, do you mean you
have an icon in system tray that indicates that there are
updates ready to be installed but fail to do so?

Well I have to go to the upload site for the update service pack 2 or
something and this redirrects me to an error site and on this site is links
to FAQ's and sollutions but none have help me cure it it still redirrects to
this error page
