You don't. FDisk is an old MS-DOS utility that is neither
available or needed in WinXP. All legitimate WinXP installation CDs are
bootable and have the capability of deleting, creating, and formatting
partitions.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

I am having trouble booting with my XP disk. Every time i try the screen
goes blank after it says inspecting system hardware. The system doesnt lock
up beccause crtl alt del still works etc. This is why i am looking for
Fdisk. Also the format as boot option is grayed out and i dont know why.

You will need a Windows 98 or Windows ME boot disk to get and use FDISK.
But be careful, as it will not handle the new "large" drive. Another
option is to download and use a "tools disk" from the hard drive
manufacturer.

I had a similar problem with a new computer I made from various used parts
and a new motherboard. I found out that after I removed the CPU heat sink
and added some "thermal grease" it worked just fine. Guess the CPU was over
heating and not responding correctly. Thermal grease can be obtained in
any good electronic parts store.

As mentioned, fdisk is of little use to you in NT-based systems and
useless for NTFS. But you can still use fdisk to remove partitions, and
add delaprt.exe to the boot floppy to remove stubborn NTFS partitions or
logical drives.

'Win98 SE boot floppy'
(http://users.adelphia.net/~abraxas/dl/Win98SE.exe) (with large drive
fdisk, unformat.exe, and delpart.exe)

You might also try starting the installation with the XP setup
floppies:

'XP Setup Boot Disks' (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994)

or this single setup floppy:

FDisk won't help with a hardware problem.

Load your XP disk into the rom drive and close the tray. Then turn off the
machine even if you have to hold in the power button. When the machine shuts
down wait a few seconds and power up. Installation disk will begin loading
and it will give you the option to format and or set your partition.
