XP IS AN UPGRADE FROM WIN98se C:\ OUT OF SPACE, REPLACEING
DRIVE SO I CAN DOWNLOAD WIN-XP'S (SP2)WHICH IS 1.2gb
Why ever did you buy a 20gb to replace your ailing 10gb? For only a
few dollars more, you could have gotten an 80gb HD. Please don't
split that little 20gb HD into 2 or more partitions. A HD that small
BEGS to be kept as a single partition.
I advise EVERYONE to install XP on a partition of AT THE VERY MINIMUM,
10gb. XP NEEDS room to grow and expand. While it may initially fit
on a partition of 2 or 3gb, it will QUICKLY develop the need for MORE
SPACE.
To partition/format your new HD:
1) Start your BIOS setup program (only you know how -- if not, ask the
manufacturer of your motherboard)
2) Set the boot order where your CD will be first boot device
3) Place XP media in CD, turn machine off, then back on
4) At the prompt to press a key to boot from CD, quickly press a key.
You will only have 5-6 seconds to press any key, or Windows will start
normally. If you miss the target the first time, keep rebooting until
the XP setup program starts.
5) Once the XP setup program starts, it will give you the opportunity
to create 1 or more partitions, then format them, then install XP on
the partition of your choosing.
Read all material on the screen, follow prompts for a successful
installation of XP.
