FDD problem

Hello all,
In attempting to upgrade from Win98se to Win2k Pro I am having FDD problems.
The FDD "remembers" the files from the first disk that I insert and copies
them to any subsequent disks. I tried to delete the files. It confirms
deletion but reappears when opening the floppy disk. On rebooting it still
shows the files in "A" drive with no floppy inserted.
The FDD works fine with Win98se.
I tried installing Win2k with a "clean installation", from the CD and as an
upgrade. In every attempt the FDD has the same problem.
Alternating between Win98se and Win2k OS's the FDD always works with Win98se
but not with Win2k Pro.
The motherboard is a VA503+ Bios JE4331, 256ram and 20gig HD.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Mark.
Will remember this info when I try again. After half a dozen or more
installations I will give it a rest for a while.
By the way I compared the drivers between my Win98se and Win2k computers and
this is what I find.
On computer with Win2k
Floppy controller
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\fdc.sys
Floppy drive
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\flpydisk.sys

On computer with Win98se
Floppy controller
C:\windows\system\iosubsys\hsflop.pdr
C:\windows\system\iosubsys\vmm32\ios.vxd
Floppy drive (Standard)
"No driver files are required or loaded."
Don't know if this is significant.
John.

Thanks Mark for your suggestions. It will probably be a while before I
attempt to upgrade my Win98se to Win2k again.
Have to learn to leave well enough alone.
John.
