I plan to reformat the hard drive but would like to retain the Favorites

Hello Mo,

Go to Start=> Run and type in "favorites" {without the quotes}
Copy this folder to a CD, or other removable media, or a backup drive.

Hello,

Start IE. Then go to File, Import and Export. Perform a export of the
favorites. Save the file in another medium such as a thumb drive.

After reinstalling XP, perform the same step as above, choosing to Import
the file back.

You can also just copy the Favorites folder located in c:\documents and
settings\<user name>\favorites and restore it back after formatting.

use File EXPORT and export it to a place you select.
then copy it to removable media.
when you install fresh.
use File IMPORT to bring it back in.

COPY is not the best process.
it is best to use EXPORT/IMPORT from the File menu.

That is, copy the "Favourites" folder under your username/profile.
