favorites slow to delete

When I delete an entry out of my favorites list it takes eons to finish
(like 30 seconds). Just the first one though. After that if I delete more
entries they go as fast as you'd expect they should. Is this normal, or an
indication of a problem? It's winxp, up to date updates, athlon 2800, 1GB
ram, 25GB hard drive -- half full and recently defragged. Protected by NIS
2005.

Ok, I think I fixed it. Emptying my recycle bin seems to have speeded
things up.
