every time i go to my internet explorer and click on my favorites button i
get this error message

C:\users\aaron\documents\favorites\favorites refers to a location that is
unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network.
Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are
connected to the internet or you network, and then try again, If it still
cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different
location

now im not sure why it is doing this and im not sure why the path at the top
of the error message say there are two favorite folders but when i check out
the path its right there are two favorite folders when there wasnt before.

if i delete one of them then it jsut comes back and i cant get the IE to go
to the proper path. now i have already lost all of my favorite links but i
cant make new ones ether

please help

thank you

Someone else may have a better idea, but I'd:

1. Copy all the Favorites from the child Favorites folder to the parent
Favorites folder.

2. Delete the child Favorites folder. Don't reboot yet! If the system won't
allow you to delete the child Favorites folder at this point, don't worry
about it. Just make sure the parent Favorites folder has your links in it.

3. Fix the path to the Favorites folder in the registry. Make sure you run
regedit elevated (as administrator). Here is a link showing the correct
path in the various registry keys:

http://www.digitalinsane.com/archives/2006/10/15/vista-user-shell-folders-registry-part-1/

Reboot.

4. After you've made the registry change, if you weren't able to delete the
child Favorites folder in Step 1, hopefully you will be able to do it now.

From your description of the problem, the issue lies in that the wrong path
to Favorites is in the registry. Of course, I only know what you've told me
and some change must have occurred for this to happen. Your Favorites
location didn't magically break all by itself.

Another option if the problem is very recent is to do a System Restore to
when things worked.
