Favorites Missing

All of the Favorites listings in both my computer and my
wife's computer suddenly disappeared. We are using
Windows XP, with IE 6.0. There was a message that
appeared briefly, saying something about not displaying
URLs not recently used. The favorites entries are also
gone from C:\Documents and Settings\Bruce\Favorites. The
registry entry for HKCU points to that location. I
searched the disk for other possible locations, but found
none.

Is there any way to restore the favorites?

I have a similar problem, except that my Favorites are still in C:\Documents
and Settings\my\Favorites. How can I get IE 6 to once again recognize my
favorites? How can I tell (and change) where IE is looking for favorites? I'd
appreciate any help. Thanks.
