is there a way to open a search on a large favorites list.

One of two ways I can think of off hand. Open Windows Explorer, select your
favorites folder and run your search.

Option 2. Open Internet Explorer, go to File and select Import and Export,
follow the screens and export your favorites making note of to where you've
exported them. This will create an HTM file that will open with your
favorites as clickable links. Then click edit and find.
