Here's a suggestion for Microsoft: PLEASE do something about the Windows Mail
problem, as so many people here seem to be experiencing it out of the blue.
Described below:

I've read many messages in this group from people who are having the same
problem as I am. When I send/receive in Windows Mail I am asked to enter
username and password, which I do, only to receive the same request again.
This is the error message:

Account: 'pop.keproject.com', Server: 'pop.keproject.com', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.',
Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92

I'm running Avast, Norton was uninstalled ages ago. Have tried deleting
email account and setting it up again. Have tried setting Avast to not scan
emails. Have tried all the suggestions here and still no luck! Help please!

Hi, i get that error message from time to time, I just cancel it and allow
the other accounts to download emails and then I close down Window Mail or
when it happened to me in Outlook Express i closed that down, then shut down
the system and waited for 10 mins and rebooted and then checked email again
and it worked everytime - think its an email server prob - maybe too many
users checking email at same time????

I answered you a few minutes ago in your other thread:
"Can't send/receive. Logon authentication required"

Please, only one thread per issue, so as not to dilute the
limited manpower we responders have.

I recently helped a friend with the same problem so I hope the following
information will help you…..

Open up your windows mail, click on tools and then accounts, highlight the
mail server you use (I.g pop.ntlworld.com) then click on properties and it
opens another window, click on servers and make sure all the details you have
for setting the account up are correct, then make sure the remember password
is ticked, “log on using secure password authentication†should be empty (not
ticked), then make sure “outgoing mail server†is ticked, then go into box
marked settings (on the same page) the box that says USE SAME SETTINGS AS MY
INCOMING MAIL SERVER should be ticked if not tick it, then click OK then
APPLY then OK again, close internet accounts window and you should be able to
use the windows mail without the hassle.

Good Luck and let me know if this works.

Please stop posting this misleading information, not all servers require
Outgoing Server authentication, ntlworld might, but Orange for instance does
not.
