fault with default mail client on startup in Outlook 2007 Beta

On the Outlook 2007 Beta program. When the CPU is restarted and Outlook is
opened for the first time, it comes up with an error showing that the default
mail client is not set. So far the only way to correct this issue is to
re-install the Office software each time.

I have also noticed that when you try to access the email accounts options
or send and receive that it cannot implement the process. It also displays a
message stating that ExSec32.dll is incompatible, and that Outlook must be
re-installed.

Is it a corrupted install, if so how do i get around this issue, or do i
have to re-install at each start up??

I hope someone answers this for you. I had this same experience and
reinstallation every time you boot up and want to see your e-mail is clearly
not an answer. My Outlook 2007 finally just stopped working altogether.
After trying several System Restores, I finally concluded that the only
solution was to uninstall the beta, although it did have some features I
liked, and drop back to Office 2003. Even that was difficult. I had to
reload the beta several times before it would give me an uninstall option.
Finally got one. And -- good news -- when I uninstalled the beta, Outlook
2003 no longer worked, either. I think it must have been affected in some
(adverse) way by installing Ooutlook 2007 over it. I then uninstalled all of
Office 2003, and did a full clean reinstall. 2003 (including Outlook) seems
to work fine now -- finally! I guess I'll wait until the beta is no longer a
beta before trying 2007 again.

One question: Did you (as I did) install the beta right over Offfice 2003?
Apparently you can install the beta and retain older versions of other Office
programs, i.e., MS Word 2003 and MS Word 2007 can exist on the same computer
without interfering with each other; each will work, just depending on which
you open. I am not sure, however, that the same is true for Outlook. Maybe
they should be telling us to wipe whatever earlier version of Office (or at
least whatever version of Outlook) we are running before installng the beta?

You can only have one version of Outlook on a computer. Office 2007
setup should deinstall any previous Outlook version, but there is some
weird issue that prevents this from happening.

Yes Idid exactly the same, installing over 2003. However one question, when
you removed 2003 and reinstalled did you lose any previous emails. As that is
the course of action I want to take but am concerned that I will lose al my
older mail.

So would you recommend that I remove the 2003 copy to see if this rectify's
this issue?

In response to your question below, I did not lose any messages; they were
all there folders and all, when I reinstalled 2003. I would share your
concern: I just felt I didn't have a choice, and fortunately in my case they
came back from wherever they were hibernating.

In order to be able to remove 2003 cleanly, you need to remove 2007 and
then remove 2003. After that, reinstall 2007.

My experience squares with Patrick's. As I noted earlier, you may have some
initial difficulty in removing 2007. But the larger question is whether,
having removed both, you then reinstall 2007, or drop back to 2003. If I had
been confident that 2007 would work as it should when I reinstalled it after
I removed both it and 2003, I would have reinstalled 2007. I wasn't, and
thus reinstalled 2003.
