Fatal Errors

I've tried to resolve this myself by reading posts here but I'm a bit
overwhelmed by all the possible causes and solutions. My technical abilities
are limited I'm afraid.
After installing a new Nvidia card, I've begun having errors the system
terms "fatal." There are two error messages that occur at different times.
When I first boot up I receive this:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF789E524, 0xC0000034, 8x00000000,0x00000000) If I shut
the system down and let it rest awhile it will boot properly. I don't know hy
it requires 2 boots to function.
After working a while in high demand 3d programs, they often crash and I
receive this:
Driver IRQL...Not Less Or Equal
I obtained the latest driver from Nvidia. I used Driver Agent to clean out
my old ATI driver and installed the Nvidia driver in a clean environment. I
have 2 gigs of ram and they both check out as okay. The processor is a 3.1
and I keep my system maintained. The BIOS and chipset are up to date. I hope
this is enough info to narrow the possible causes.

In general, this seems to be pointing to a hardware error.
It is possible that the processor is overheating. This same sort of error
ocurred on one of my machines after a slow Nvidia card was replaced with a
much faster card.
Other possibilities Power supply, Motherboard getting shakey, to name just
two.
The solution in my case was to replace the suppled processor heat sink with
a better one.
Over clocking can cause the same symptoms.

Thanks so much for your response, Chuck. That's exactly what happened. I
upgraded from a slow ATI to a much faster Nvidia. Based on your response I'm
hoping it's only the power supply. I have the correct one on order but for
the time being I'm limping along on what I've got. I didn't know any better
but now I do thanks to you. Hurry up Mr. Postman.

However I'm unsure about what a "shakey" motherboard is. Does that mean it
might be fixing to die, needs a tech to do some maintenance?

"This indicates that Windows has lost access to the system partition
during startup."

When the system has booted up, open a Command Prompt window (Start -
Run - CMD) and enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /F /R

This will require a shutdown and restart in order to complete and may
take several hours to process the hard drive, depending on its size.

NOTE: According to the specs for this error message the last 3
parameters should all be 0x00000000 and you have reported that the
second parameter is 0x00000034.

Please post the entire error message, including the STOP code, all 4
parameters, and any file or module names mentioned.

Thanks Ron. I checked again and the second parameter is indeed 0xC0000034.
However I will run check disk as you recommended. Here's hoping.
