Fatal Errors closing Outlook Express and Internet Explorer

I have a significant problem with both Outlook Express and
Internet Explorer, and want to know if this is related to
an XP problem

Specifically, some email messages cause my Outlook Express
to stop functioning. Additionally, some web sites I visit
also cause my Internet Explorer to stop functioning.
Alothough I get the pop-up window that allows me to report
the problem, I am unable to find out why these seeming
random emails and URLs kill both programs.

I've opened the same email messages and URL sites from my
laptop, running Win 98, with no errors to Outlook Express
or Internet Explorer.

Can someone clue me in on how to fix this problem on my
computer running XP?
