fat32 to ntfs

can you please tell me how to change my external hard drive from fat32 to
ntfs and if it is safe to do so ..I am running winxp home edition.Thanks for
your help...

Windows XP won't let you format an external drive as NTFS. There are
some cases where it will, but I haven't been able to deduce those yet.
If you can, install the drive internally, format/convert it to NTFS, and
then use it externally as you normally would. Worked for me.
