Fat to NTFS

Using Partition Magic, I converted my hard disk from FAT32 to NTFS to
enable me to use Microsoft Virtual Server (I haven't installed this
yet).

Booting to the desktop now takes twice as long. Is this to be expected?

Comments/advice much appreciated.

Regards,

Joe.

How does the machine operate once booted?

If thats' slow too, something is wrong...maybe the HD reverted to PIO???

Normally there would be no noticable difference between a FAT32 drive vs
NTFS

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in
the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for the last boot. No
Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate which also appear in
a previous boot.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning
of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description
are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you
should double click for further information. You can copy using copy
and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further
information.

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

The Event Viewer appears to show problems in the System only. These
are:-

1. Warning, 08/11/2007, Rasman, Event 20027
Remote Access Control Manager failed to start because NDISWAN failed to
start.

2. Error, 08/11/2007, Service Control Manager, Event 7000
TrueVector failed to start ...(because)... The service did not respond
to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

3. Error, 08/11/2007, Service Control Manager, Event 7009
Timeout (30000 millseconds) waiting for True Vector Internet Monitor
service to connect.

I also ran bootlog but there doesn't appear to be anything untoward
there. Unfortunately, this program doesn't show loading times.

To answer Philo's question: There is no loss of performance once booting
is complete.

Most of the extra time is taken up up by the programs which are still
loading after the desktop first appears.

Is there an available and reliable program which which will list all
loading programs and show their loading times?

Many thanks for further advice.

Joe
