I just wanted to express my appreciation and admiration for this software.
As everyone knows, Windows 2000 does not have a good image viewer. So I
downloaded FastStone to try out. I am thrilled with it.

I am in no way affiliated with the software. I am just stating my
satisfaction with a great piece of software that is available.

Couldn't agree with you more! And it is continually being improved in
response to user requests.

In full screen mode there is also a very useful right-click menu.

The "edit with external program" item can easily be set up to include
your favorite paint programs and photo effects processors.

That's how I use it. From my usual file manager I doubleclick on a
picture file, Faststone starts and shows the picture in full screen
mode. Then I rightclick and choose to edit with Pixia, for example.

You could add a screenshot of the rightclick menu with this submenu
visible.

Another feature I like: In fullscream mode, bump top border gives
thumbnails of pictures, but also folder symbols for subfolders, and
these subfolder symbols show 4 of the pictures inside that folder, so I
can see easily what type of pictures I have in that folder.

Your web page starts with a lot of text, one has to scroll down to see
that there are very nice screen shots. The "wow that's nice" experience
is delayed until the visitor scrolls down the page. I think it would be
better to move the first screenshot closer to the top of the page so
the visitors understand immediately that there are colorful pictures in
that web page, so they don't get the impression that it's a boring text
only web page.

ISTR Faststone creates a large and growing work file which annoys some
people.

See this group about a year or so ago.

In the settings you can choose to not use a thumbnail database, and I
assume that Faststone then creates only a temporary database while it
is being used.

Settings, thumbnails, "Use thumbnail database" at the top of the box.

The database in my installation is only 2.8 MB, after I have used the
program for at least a year, and that is very moderate compared to the
thumbnail database in other programs.

I tried the database manager, optimize database, now. This did not
reduce the database file in any significant way.

I think the thumbnail database in Faststone is very good and takes
little place.
It must be selfcleaning somehow, as optimizing it gave a very small or
no reduction. I have moved picture folders around with other programs,
and that did not leave large numbers of non-valid thumbnails in
Faststone, as far as I can understand. So it must be a very smart
program.

The generation of thumbnails when entering a newly created picture
folder is very quick and the program is usable while the thumbnails for
that folder are created.
