Fastest CPU to replace P2-350 for 440BX MB?

I have my nice still looks like new inside and out homebuilt pc just
sitting in the closet. I'd like to replace the P2-350 with fan and
give it to a neighbor. It has 384 ram a 16x CDburner 30gig HD.

Evergreen makes a Slot 1 Overdrive Processor 1.0Ghz Celeron that is
supposed to work but I'm very skeptical. Thanks for any help/info.

I've got a slot 1 adapter and am running a 1.2 or 1.3 tualatin. Has worked
just fine for several years. Just set a few jumpers for clock, voltage, and
fsb and away it went. Forgive my addle brain, can't remember the
manufacturer or exact cpu. Seem to remember the adapter was 25 bucks, and a
cpu was about the same.

I've had a Tualatin 1.4Ghz and a Coppermine 1.1Ghz running in mine.

Mentioning the motherboard make and model might help. If the
board was a popular one, more might be known about it.

On my motherboard, I replaced the voltage regulator chip, so I could
run the Tualatin S370 processor using a $25 slocket. (Some motherboards
already have the right regulator on them.) A more guaranteed
solution, would be a Tualatin processor plus a Powerleap slocket (as
the proper 1.5V regulator is built-in). But there are certainly more
conventional solutions out there.

The one mod I didn't do, is change the clock generator. Mine won't do
133MHz, so I cannot run the RAM at PC133. I'm stuck at 1.4GHz/FSB100
and running the RAM at PC100.

You can try upgradeware slot-t slot1 to Socket 370 adapter. The
fastest CPU is 1400 Tualatin depends on what motherboard model.

If you don't want to spend money on adapter and tutalatin, you can buy
slot 1 PIII 650 or 700, 750,800 or 850 CPU. They are very cheap on
ebay (less than $15 w/shipping on Ebay)
