hi i use a brother mfc-8440 printer/scanner/fax with a mac powerbookg4
running osx10.3 or 10.4, and 528MB RAm and a 1.33GHz chip. I find this
machine is incredibly slow in scanning photos, and sometimes spends up
to a half hour "converting data" before abandoning the scan operation.

the brother help desk told me to use a shorter USB cable. i tried that,
but it makes no difference.

does nayone know if there are special settings i need or a better piece
of software for scanning the photos? i have a ton of old family photos
to scan for a wedding. thanks Peter

Most scanner software supplied free with 3-in-one
printers seems very slow. In some cases I suspect
the slow hardware scan function may limit software
speed, i.e. the free custom software may be the
best you can hope for. But you will probably get
much better help in the NG comp.periphs.scanners.
