--- BEFORE POSTING ANYTHING PLEASE READ THESE ---

http://www.mvps.org/word/FindHelp/Posting.htm
http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm

Reading these articles will help you get a quick and meaningful
response to your question rather than just more questions for you.
It may keep your message from being screened or bounced.

A few basics, in case you decide you can skip that article:
(1) Be nice; everyone answering questions here is a volunteer.
(2) Post a question in only one newsgroup generally. If you
_have to_ post in more than one, post a _single_ message and
put both newsgroups in the header for that _single_ message.
(3) Do not attach anything to a message.
(4) The only really stupid question is the one you don't ask.
(5) Do not use your real email address unless you enjoy spam. (See
bottom for sample.)

The reasons for the requests are spelled out on the web pages.

Excellent advice - and here's a sorely needed #6:

(6) Put your answer AFTER (below) the message you are replying to, not at
the top. Putting the answer before the question makes no sense and, once a
thread goes beyond a couple of replies, makes the whole thing very difficult
to read.

Hi Peter,
(6) Put your answer AFTER (below) the message you are replying to, not at
the top. Putting the answer before the question makes no sense and, once a
thread goes beyond a couple of replies, makes the whole thing very difficult
to read.
I think this is a matter of taste, and judgement. And also a question of where
you're coming into a discussion.

Personally, I prefer to post in-line if the discussion allows it. But if the
entire question/problem description is extremely long, I'll post at the
beginning because it's a real bother to have to scroll down (and down, and
down) to discover if there is a reply, and if it makes any sense.

One has to suppose that the person who asked the question knows what they
asked. And often, I would think that those who are interested in a topic have
begun with the question, and are continuing to the answers. In either case,
having to read/scroll through the (long) original text is a bother.

The only case I can imagine this would be useful is if you've "googled" a
particular message and so don't have the background.
