Fan running always at low speed

I have an Acer Aspire AMD sempron 2800+ with Windows XP HE installed.
Now the fan runs always at low speed and battery goes down fast; this
happend sometimes after installing free programs as PHP DESIGNER 2007.
Acer support says me I have reinstall all Windows XP; but I cannot do that
everytime so often: it isn't good for hard disk and i spend a lot of time.

I ask if it's possible to skip problem reinstalling only the ACPI, and if
yes, where I find the ACPI files. I have lookd for in Microsoft download, but
there is nothing about uniprocessor. thank for you attention.

Thank you so much PD43; but my problem isn't yet solved.
I have foun the ACPI files: they are in the AMD chip driver.
I have reinstalled it and you are right: it doesn't work.
So what can I do? Can you help me?
Do I have to reinstall always Windows XP?
