Failure to renew IP address

When I open IE it tells me it can't find the webpage etc... when I proceed to
run a repair on my network connection it tells me it is unable to renew my IP
address. I have contacted my internet provider, they say it is a problem
with my computer. In command mode when I go to release and then renew my IP
address it tells me an operation was attempted on something that is not a
socket. I have run virus protection, anti-spyware etc... I have uninstalled
my network connection, deleted and re-installed winsock and winsock2 in my
regestry and even restored my computer to an earlier time but nothing works.
Help please!!!

What versio nof windows are you using? Win95 by the looks of it, but please
advise.

OP used the MSFT site web access to the news groups:

X-Newsreader: Microsoft CDO for Windows 2000

OP claims to have run a repair on the network connection. The only Win OS I
have seen that possible on is Windows XP.

I see no other evidence of an OS in the OP's post.

Doing quick search on google reveal this:

Had the same problem at my dutch XP Home edition. In some newsgroup I found
this great solution for the problem:

Uninstall you virus killer. I removed my McAfee 7.0 and after the reboot I
received the right IP address form my DHCP server and the internetconnection
was normal again.

Don't ask me why, but it's an easy solution.

Mentioning winsock and winsock2 points to Win95; winsock2 was released in
Win95 days.
