When I try to open PowerPoint now I get a message that there is an error and
do I want to fix it. I answer yes and then I get an error message that I am
not authorized to use this program. What do I do.

Hi,

What does the error message say? What version of PowerPoint?

Please tell us your PowerPoint version,
whether you are using vba,
whether your dog has fleas, or
anything else relevant.

Does this occur in a corporate or other similar setting where you don't have
full administrative rights to your PC? I'm guessing that you might need to
have administrator rights to run SETUP, which is probably what happens when you
accept the "Fix it?" offer.

I originally installed PowerPoint 2003 when using Windows 2000 Professional.
I recently upgraded to Windows XP Professional. After the upgrade I have
been unable to use the PP in any capacity, ( even to open e-mail
presentations.)

When I try to open I get the following messages:
1.Please wait while MS configures MSPP.
2. Installing components for MS Office PP
installing MSPP features
3.An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning properly.
Would you like to repair this feature now.
4. Windows Installer
Preparing to install
Installing MS PP Feature
The feature is unavailable
5. MS PP has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to
install the application.

I have moved and someway misplaced my CD. I have a MS PP 2003 upgrade CD
(Version 2003) but I get the same message when I try to use it.

Hope this helps. As you can see I am not very "computer competent"

That "current user" bit is the part that strikes me as the big "uh-oh".
I think you'll want to call MS Sales and see if you can negotiate a new copy of
the Office 2003 CD so you can completely uninstall and reinstall Office.

And for future reference: Windows upgrades are evil. It's better to reformat
the hard drive and do everything over again.
