Fade in/out from black

I know how to fade in and out from black but the fade is too fast. I want to
fade in from black over about 30 seconds - is this possible? I've read the
post about extending the fade times between transitions but it did not cover
fades from black.

Hope you guys can help.

Make a black JPG image, give it a length of 30 seconds or so on the time
line and do a 30 second fade to next clip.
