F.A.S.T.

When using F.A.S.T., does it try to include files and settings on shared
drives? I tried this on a networked computer a couple of weeks ago, and it
reported that it was going to take over five hours. I see now that I should
have sent it to a folder on the server instead of using a direct serial
cable connection, but that still seems like a lot of time for someone who
didn't have a bunch of pictures and/or music and most of her documents were
in her profile on the server.

Also, should I log on to the new computer as the user before starting to
import? I'm going to be doing a new install tomorrow from a Windows ME
machine on a small business network without a dedicated server, but with
mapped drives to other computers with plenty of extra disk space.

The only other time I used F.A.S.T. was on a very old W98 machine with no
network adapter or USB ports. I was very pleased with it, but now wonder if
the absense of a network made it quicker and easier.

Thanks for any advice.

Serial cable transfers are painfully slow.

In my experience, FAST copies those files and folders that you tell it
to copy; no more and no less.
