EZ AV Version 6.1.4.0 vs. Version 7

Roger

I have been running EZ Antivirus (version 6.1.4.0) on my laptop for
sometime. I go back with the program to the days of InnoculateIT (when it
was a freebie)! Just installed the newest version 7 demo on a friend's
machine and I must say, I AM NOT IMPRESSED. Is it me? All kinds of modules
wanting access to the Internet? Unable to do automatic downloads (problems
with getting through Free Zone Alarm), and rather childish looking interface
which seems to be missing some of the bells and whistles of 6.1 family. On
top of all that, I understand that after April or May of this year, only the
Version 7 series will be supported. If this is the direction EZ Antivirus
is taking, can someone direct me to a program which is more like the older
version that I have? Your help and comments appreciated.

That would be a problem on your end, as I've never observed any
difficulty with ZA on any computer.

By default, 6.1 checked for new sig files once a day; v7 checks every
eight hours. 6.1 had to download the entire sig file (now grown to
over 1.5mb) every day; v7 downloads only the patches needed to update
what it already had, thereby lowering the download to 50-100k for
those who connect frequently. This is much better for those with
dialup connections.

Upon renewing 6.1.4, one had to wait for the renewal email and follow
the directions carefully to plug in the new license key or else the
program would think that it had expired. With v7, one only has to pay
the $20; the program will update its registration with the next sig
file download.
On top of all that, I understand that after April or May of this
year, only the Version 7 series will be supported.

That's possible, but I haven't heard anything to that effect.
Do you have a cite?

I'm sure there are plenty of obsolete programs available, if one looks
hard enough.
