I hope i'm posting to the right group...

I have a new Intel S845wd1-E based server, with 512 RAM, 2 40GB
Seagate Barracuda drives... The board apparently has Promise FastTrack
100 onboard ATA RAID.

I'm installing Windows Sever 2003, Enterprise Edition. I started to
format a 5 GB partition on the Mirrored disk at about 10:30 this
morning. It's now 2:06 in the afternoon, and the format shows 32%!
Surely this is not normal... I don't know whether to stop the format
or let it continue into tomorrow. Any advice would be appreciated! I
have had some experience with SCSI RAID, but this is my first ATA RAID
server.

Something's terribly wrong. A 5 gig partition on that hardware should format
in a minute or less.

Go to the Seagate site and download their diagnostic software. You should be
able to run it on both disks without even breaking the RAID.

Thanks for the advice, I'll do that today. Can't wait to see what
greets me this morning, as I did let it run thru the night. When I
left work at 5, it was at 56% ;)

Take care,
