Extracting 1 number from a series of numbers in a field

I need to extract a number out of 16 in a series. The number I need to
extract is the 9th number of 16. I don't want duplicates. Any suggestions?

ex. yyyymodt*bnoseqe (the series is: year, month, day, Batch Type, batch
number, sequences.) I need to extract Batch Type.
