External USB HD NOT recognized!

I have just installed and formatted a 120GB external USB hard drive.
This replaced an older 8GB drive, which was recognized correctly.
I was able to partition the new drive into 4 logical drives, and
successfully formatted them all as NTFS, however, My Computer does NOT show
the drive(s) although it exists in the hardware profile, and is shown under
disk management.
What is going on here (he asks frustratingly!)

Thanks for the info, however, as you can see in my message, the partitions
have already been formatted to NTFS by WinXP.
That particular reference doesn't seem to have anything else that might
pertain to this problem.
