External Harddrive

Hoping someone can offer some advice. I just bought a WD 80g external
harddrive so i could keep my video files (avi, from camcorder) for future
editing of home dvd's. They were just taking too much space on my laptop.
My question is what is the best way to set this up. As of now i have NTFS on
external hdd as a primary partition with all space allocated to this drive
F:..... At some point i may want to install my ROXIO program and run it only
from F as it is a huge program and i dont need it except when im doing vid or
photos etc....... Would i then need another partition, and what about page
files etc..... lastly would prefer not to use or install the backup
software that came with external hdd and just move the files from my c/d
drive and capture future video directly to F now that i have it...... is this
going to be ok for this need or am i missing something? Im not really
concerned with compression right now unless it makes the file transfer
faster..... thanks in advance for all input and or advice....... i get a lot
out of these xp forums

Is your external drive USB 2.0 like mine? I estimate it is about half the
speed of the same drive connected internally.
