External harddrive conflicts with Windows XP

Hi! I had a question about my external harddrive I bought from Acomdata.
With Windows 98, it works just fine. All of its beautiful 120gb are fully
accessibly. However, I recently upgraded my system to Windows XP, and a
problem has arisen. It can see the root directory of the drive, but almost
all directories underneath it are seen as empty. The files in the non-empty
directories are corrupt, as well as any nested directories. I've tested it
on a few of my friend's Windows XP machines, and it has the same problem
with them. However, I connect it to my Windows 98 machine again, and
everything is there. Right now I have it hooked up to my Windows 98 machine
and have it shared across my network. However, that is neither the most
secure or fastest solution. I've looked at the partition data on the
harddrive, and it appears to have a special formatting where there is a
single 200mb or so partition. I'm thinking that is a window into the rest
of the drive, so that older Windows 98 machines can access it, therefore I
am leery of messing around with it. I'm guessing that Windows XP isn't
changing the window around to look at the other parts of the harddrive. I
most certainly do not want to reformat it and remove all the formatting and
my 70 or so megs of data I have saved on it. I have nowhere to place all
that data while it is being formatted, because none of my other harddrives
in my house are big enough to store that much.

Is there a patch that I can install to enable Windows XP to read all the
data on it?

Thank you for your help!
